Global Dialogue Necessary
A Former Canadian Diplomat argues that continuous dialogue internationally is necessary to quell the current heightened Islamaphobia.
I approve very much the idea of non-state international communication, And of course I see the need to reduce the negative image of Islam projected by many in the West.
Of course one source of Islamophobia (not the only one) have been the recent conflicts with kiilings on both sides. Right now the West is obsessed by Sunni killings but thirty years ago in Lebanon the obsession was with Shia killings. I am not in this short message going to assess the rights and wrongs of the US interventions in Lebanon (which I opposed). But if we are going to have a productive international and interfaith discussion of anti-Islamic feeling, then these history of killings has to be part of that discussion.
